Coach Rob Keeney
Coach Keeney started playing competitive volleyball in the late ’80s, competing in local USAV Men’s tournaments with various teams. The annual Hi-Neighbor tournament in Asheville, NC was always a highlight of the year and he didn’t miss many of those. As much as Rob enjoyed playing the sport, he also enjoyed officiating, eventually earning his certification as a Regional Referee. He still competes in outdoor and indoor volleyball events.
In 2002 Rob started with Southern Storm as a parent coach. Coach Teague and Southern Storm were instrumental in developing the playing and leadership skills of his son, Stephen, who used that opportunity to play varsity Men’s volleyball in college. Now, as an IMPACT certified coach, Keeney enjoys helping other boys learn the great sport of volleyball as well as teaching important life skills and developing character as they become young men.
Coaching Philosophy
Coaching boys to play volleyball is mostly about respect:
- Respect the game: Learn the important skills for individual as well as team play.
- Respect the teams: This means not only your teammates, but your coaches, your family and even your opponents.
- Respect yourself: Never settle for less than you are capable of.
